7 Ways to Fix Slack Notifications If They Aren’t Working

Thanks to notifications, Slack is a powerful communication tool. You can be alerted to new messages in the Slack mobile app when you’re away from your desk, for example, or notified of new posts when you’re busy and not looking at the app.
However, sometimes Slack notifications don’t work properly, and you don’t get updates or the updates come in late, long after you should have known about them. Here are seven of the best solutions for Slack notifications not working on your computer or mobile device.
You’ve put notifications on hold in Slack
Slack notifications may not seem like they’re working because there are simply so many ways to pause, mute, and disable notifications, and any one of them can prevent you from seeing new messages. There are many places to check, but it’s a good idea to start in the Slack app and see if notifications are interrupted.
In Slack on the desktop, click on you account icon at the top of the window and move the mouse over Pause notifications. If notifications are paused, you should see a do not disturb popup window To turn it off, click Resume notifications.

Tap on your mobile device You at the bottom right of the screen and then tap Pause notifications. Then tap Resume notifications.
Your mobile device’s notifications have been disabled
Even if notifications in the Slack app are not interrupted, there are other settings that can prevent notifications, such as the app notifications on your phone. On your iPhone, start the Institutions app and tap Notice. Scroll down and tap Slack. Finally, make sure Allow notifications is activated by swiping the button to the right.

If you have an Android device, launch the Institutions app, tap Noticeand then type Program settings. Find Slack in the application list and make sure it is on by swiping the button to the right.
Your computer system notifications are turned off
Likewise, if you don’t see notifications on your computer, your computer’s system notifications may be disabled. Click Start and then Institutions, and type “notifications” in the search box. Choose Notices and actions when you see it appear in search results. Find Slack and make sure it is turned on by swiping the button to the right.
Like your phone, your computer also has system-level notification settings that may be disabled.

Your device is set to Do Not Disturb mode
Most of the time, you won’t see notifications if your device is in Do Not Disturb mode. On your iPhone, swipe down from the top right of the screen and check the Focus institution in the Control Center. If it says anything other than “Focus”, tap the icon to turn it off. Similarly, on Android, swipe down from the top of the screen and search do not disturb. If it is turned on, tap it to turn it off.
Notifications are disabled in the Slack app
And there are still ways to turn off notifications. For example, they can be turned off in the Slack app itself.
On the desktop, click the account icon in the Slack app and select Preferences. In the Preferences menu, select Notice and check your settings in the Notify me about… section. If it is currently set to nothingclick All new messages or Direct messages, mentions and keywordsdepending on how many notifications you want to get.
You can choose how many notifications you want to see on the desktop version of Slack.

You have the same options on your mobile device. Tap into the mobile app You at the bottom right of the screen and then tap Notice. In the Notify me on mobile about… section, select the amount of notifications you want (but don’t select nothingor you won’t get any notifications).
Clear the Slack app’s cache
If you’re still not getting any Slack notifications, there may be a problem with the app’s cache on the device where you’re not getting notifications, and you need to clear the Slack app’s cache.
If you’re using an Android device, clearing the cache is easy. The steps may vary slightly depending on which version of Android you have, but start the Institutions app and then tap Applications. Go to the list of applications and tap Slack. Type Storage and closet. Type Clear cache.
You can clear the Slack cache in the Settings app on Android.

If you have an iOS device, there is no way to clear the cache without uninstalling the app, so do this – uninstall Slack and then reinstall it from the App Store.
Reinstall Slack
If nothing else works, you may need to reinstall the Slack app. Remove Slack from the problematic device. The exact method varies, but here’s a guide to uninstalling apps from most common devices. After uninstalling Slack, reinstall it from the device’s app store and sign in to your account again. Then check if you receive notifications.
