AI to help Truecaller users in India know why someone is calling them

Smartphone app Truecaller has revealed its intention to launch an artificial intelligence-powered calling assistant on Indian shores, allowing users to see who is calling and why on screen.

Truecaller’s latest feature, Assistant, has already launched in the United States, both on Android and iOS, and the company has plans to launch this feature in India by next year.

The latest feature to tell who is calling and why

According to the leading global communication platform, if any user declines or does not answer a call, the same will be forwarded to the AI-powered Assistant. The latter will use voice-to-text technology and when the caller responds to the Assistant, the user will be able to see on the screen who is calling and why.

In simpler terms, Truecaller’s Assistant is an AI-powered call screening service that screens phone calls on behalf of a user to help him/her determine whether a call is worth picking up or not based on who is calling and the purpose of the call.

The new feature of the Caller ID and Spam Blocker app has already launched in the US this year, helping users combat the growing threat of scam calls and empowering them to answer important calls and avoid unwanted calls. Interestingly, the Assistant responds within a second and understands caller requests with >90% accuracy. The feature answers incoming calls on your behalf and provides a live transcript of what the caller is saying.

In the words of Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Managing Director and Chief Product Officer of Truecaller India, ‘We have developed an AI-powered assistant that helps us in our mission to avoid unwanted and spam calls. What Truecaller does now is tell the user who is calling and then the user can make the decision to accept or decline a call. From now on, there will be an AI-powered assistant that will answer the call on your behalf. This feature has already launched in the US on both Android and iOS and in 2023 we hope to launch it in India.’
