preview: India were on a roll on Day 3 of the first Test against Bangladesh as they set the home team a target of 513 runs after Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara picked up individual tons to help India post 258/2 (D) in the to achieve second innings. It was Gill’s first Test century.
India bowled out Bangladesh for 150 earlier in the first innings but failed to force a follow-on.
“I personally thought it (maidens Test century) was going to be a long time coming for me. Today it was about getting rid of the difficult situation. There were no different thoughts (while batting in the 90s). For me it was about how to play to the pitch and then be able to score runs. It was very instinctive (hitting some boundaries and getting to the milestone). When the bowler came around the wicket, there was a gap between third man and point. I didn’t play it the whole turn. And as soon as the field came in, I went over the fielders. When lunch happened, I batted around 13. When I faced 100 balls I was 70-odd, it’s about the pace of the innings. You as a batsman know when to attack,” Gill said after scoring his century.
Bangladesh were 42/0 before stumps were called on Day 3.
