Known for his unique sense of humour, legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag shared an epic tweet after Lionel Messi-led Argentina were knocked out in the FIFA World Cup 2022 final on Sunday. Ending his long wait for the golden trophy, Messi masterminded Argentina’s World Cup title success in the Qatar edition of the prestigious event. Messi scored twice ahead of two-time champions Argentina in his fifth FIFA World Cup campaign before the South American giants edged past Kylian Mbappe star France in a dramatic penalty shootout at the Lusail Stadium.

A day after Argentina made history and claimed its third World Cup crown in Qatar, former India captain Sehwag shared a witty post about Argentina stalwart Messi on Instagram. Known for tickling the funny bone of netizens on social media, Sehwag revealed how Messi would have been rewarded for his glorious World Cup campaign had he been born in India. Sehwag’s rib post became an instant hit among his fans and followers on the Facebook-owned platform. The viral post was also shared by veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan.

Earlier, former Indian cricketer Sehwag praised Messi and Mbappe for their remarkable performances in the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals. “One of the greatest World Cup matches of all time. Mbappe was outstanding for France, but it was meant to be Lionel Messi’s crowning glory. Congratulations Argentina for becoming the #FIFAWorldCup Champions,” Sehwag said in a tweet.

Gonzalo Montiel scored the winning penalty in the shootout to secure Argentina’s third World Cup title. French forward Mbappe bagged the golden boot after the Paris Saint Germain (PSG) star scored the most goals in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Mbappe’s PSG teammate and Argentina captain Messi won the Ballon d’Or after being named the Player of the Tournament in Qatar. .
