WILLIAMSBURG – Multiple fire crews were called to a fire in Williamsburg Tuesday afternoon that destroyed two attached garages.
A call came in at 2:20 p.m. for a house fire at 335 Canoe Mountain Drive, Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Company Deputy Fire Chief Travis Prough said.
When crews from Williamsburg first arrived, they found the front of the two garages on fire, Prorough said.
“Fire was found at the front of the structures. which quickly spread to fully involved,” he said.
The structure of the property consisted of two single-wide mobile homes that were connected. Prorough reported two residents lived in the home.
He believes one of the residents was at home when the fire started and was able to escape.
She was evaluated by EMS and released with no reported injuries.
There were also no injuries to firefighters or other emergency crews.
Prough said there aren’t many challenges to fighting a fire other than manpower and water.
“We had problems with water in the beginning, but we were able to deal with those problems pretty quickly,” he said.
At the time of the mid-afternoon interview, the fire was nearly contained, Prorough said.
He said crews were about to begin a renovation to tackle the remaining fire that was in the ceiling and elsewhere in the structure.
Prorough thought it would be completely contained in another hour.
The home was a total loss, and the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents. Prorough said he has not been able to speak with the homeowner to begin to figure out how the fire could have started.
The fire marshal and he would begin an investigation once the fire was under control.
About six fire companies were on the scene, including Geesystown Community Fire Company, Alexandria Fire Company, Allegheny Township Fire Department, Friendship Fire Company of Roaring Spring, Excelsior Fire Department of Bellwood and Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department of Hollidaysburg.
